rXg Configuration

Module 1: administrative accounts – 30 minutes

The first module involves establishing access and assigning permissions within the management console. For each operator administrator we establish an authentication credential and give permissions (defined what parts of the system they should have or should not have access to) by giving him or her an administrator role. We also establish the types of notifications each will receive from the equipment if predefined thresholds are crossed or anomalous behavior is detected. At least one but no more than three admin accounts will be established during this process. The operator’s administrators will set up subsequent and additional accounts for other members of the organization.

Module 2: Network - 2 hours

The focus of this module is to ensure that all WAN and LAN links are properly configured. Since the Revenue eXtraction Gateway is deployed as a central trunk interceptor in a revenue-generating network, each and every local area subnet along with each and every wide area uplink must be properly declared as such in the console. In addition, all network address translation and port forwarding rules are configured. This module is complete when the interfaces page matches that which is documented on the network diagram created during the rXg installation process.

Module 3: Services – 30 minutes

The services section contains various settings that configure numerous facets of the Revenue eXtraction Gateway that are critical to proper operation. Core network services (DHCP and DNS is defined) as is RADIUS, mail, message rotators, and security. In this module we will go through each potential and discuss its function, options and impact on the gateway operations, then enable or activate appropriate services. Each service is defined from information gathered on the RG Nets site survey. This module will be complete when the each services configured to allow proper operation of the Revenue eXtraction Gateway to meet the network requirements.

Module 4: Identities– 30 minutes

This module is designed to configure end-users into logical groups such that unique management and control settings can be applied to multiple end users sharing common attributes. A maximum of 10 group accounts will be established during this process. Operator technical contacts will set up subsequent and users and groups.

Module 5: Policies – 2 hours

This module establishes the basic policies that will be enforced upon the members of the groups defined in the previous module. Policies may include and of the enforcement capabilities of the rXg including but not limited to firewalling, traffic shaping, payload rewriting and content filtering. This module is complete when at least one policy is assigned to each group defined in the previous module.

Module 6: Billing – 30 minutes

Based on the Site Survey plans with billing will be created. These plans may require configuration to enable a merchant partnership for credit card processing or coupons established for temporary prepaid access. We will be complete when we have established a credit card can be cleared, or a coupon can be utilized to gain access to the network and the proper transaction has been identified and cleared.

Module 6: Archives and Instruments – 30 minutes

The auditing section of the Revenue eXtraction Gateway Management Console is designed to facilitate the monitoring and analysis of users. We will ensure the data archived and logs collected are current and are being properly stored from activity created on the network. This will be complete when logs, instruments and archives are presenting correct data.

Module 7: captive portal – 2 hours

We will activate the default captive portal such that clients and users can authenticate. We will import a company logo and modify the headings to accommodate the customer on the primary page. We will also activate up to two authentication methods and delete or remove the rest. This module establishes the basic security of the system and parameters for traffic. This module is complete when network applicants are successfully delivered to the captive portal and access is granted.
