rXg Basic Training
Module 1: Services – 1 hour
The Revenue eXtraction Gateway is built upon a general purpose IP packet processing platform. It is designed to intercept a network trunk and manipulate the stream of packets flowing through the trunk according to rules specified by an administrator. Firewalls, VPN concentrators, intrusion protection systems, content filters and bandwidth managers are required to maintain control in today’s environment. In this overview section we will go through the Revenue eXtraction Gateway management console in its entirety to ensure student familiarity with the design, interaction, integration, terminology and construction. In this section we will review the “System” setting such as Help Menu and how it is used. We will review the ADMIN section and how changes are made and new ADMINs are defined. We will also review system shut down, backup and restore.
Module 2: Network – 1 hour
The Network section contains various settings that configure network interfaces, link control, security, storage content, and other general, yet important aspects of the Revenue eXtraction Gateway. Global settings control who and how your system is administered and connected to the WAN, LAN and Routing In this module we will go through each potential physical and logical port and discuss its function, options and impact on the gateway and network’s operation.
Module 3: Services – 30 minutes
The services section is used to configure a broad range of core network services that facilitates the provision of almost any network configuration. These core networking services include DNS, DHCP, routing, Nat / BiNat, and the Intranet / web server. Instruction on how each service should be set up to support the operator’s particular network topology will be provided.
Module 4: Identities – 30 minutes
This module deals with the various modes of authentication the Revenue eXtracton Gateway can support. We will define each method and how they can be used as an authentication mechanism for your users. This includes: local database (included with the Revenue eXtraction Gateway, LDAP / active directory, RADIUS (server or client), public access (no authentication, and token / coupon-based authentication.
Module 5: Policies – 1 hour
Policies define how plans are created and establish the user experience. Understating how to create policies is critical to developing the proper customer environments. We will provide instruction as to how and when to create a policy and how to link policies to create effective plans.
Module 6: Billing – 30 minutes
This module explains each type of usage or access payment methods the Revenue eXtraction Gateway can provide. The Revenue eXtraction Gateway can be configured to authenticate against several payment services and an unlimited number of plans. The operator’s administrator will be instructed on how to configure payment period and how to set up payment and access plans.
Module 7: Archives – 30 minutes
Archives are displays of user, network and system performance over time. In this module we will review which types of data is collected and the default settings of each graph. We will instruct the operator on means and methods to modify existing or create new visual tools.
Module 8: Instruments – 15 minutes
Instruments are displays of user, network and system performance in real time In this module we will review which types of data is collected and the default settings of each graph. The instrumentation section is used for capturing and illustrating user traffic on interfaces. In this section we will define the type of traffic and interfaces system administrators can utilize to effectively manage or shape bandwidth. This section also maintains logs about routing and DHCP server operations. We will instruct the operator on means and methods to modify existing or create new visual tools. We will also instruct the operator on various means to extract data for use with other packet analysis tools or reports.
Module 9: Captive Portal
The captive portal is an extremely powerful tool for interfacing with the customer. We will train the operator on means and methods to modify the default (or included) captive portals that come with the system. We will also instruct the operator in how to create new portals and how to redirect to other sites for content. We will also recommend training or documentation that will help customers perform advanced functions such as scripting or creating new portals from scratch. This module establishes the basic security of the system and parameters for traffic. This module is complete when operators can make modifications to default portals.
